The whole world could abound with services to the Lord…not only in churches but also in the home, kitchen, workshop, field.

-Martin Luther

My name is Zachariah Buckmaster, an I am the owner of Ethos Carpentry. From the beginning of the company, there has always been two sole purposes.

First, to provide for the people you see in the picture beside this write up. My wife and children make everything I do possible - especially my wife. Wrestling with my kids when I get home from a day on site fills up the tank again and gives me energy that I didn’t think I still had in me after a day at work. These souls are behind every nail I sink, piece that I cut, and cabinet that I install.

Secondly, and most importantly, in all that I endeavour to do I seek the glory of the Triune God of the Bible. He is the one who gave me the abilities that I have (1 Cor 4:7) and the one who I am truly working for (Col 3:23). My chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, and the work of glorifying God isn’t limited to the chapel or sanctuary. It is in this enjoyment of the LORD that I can find true enjoyment in my vocation. I love my job. Working with my hands is a challenge and a pleasure everyday. But if all the work I do, all the cabinets I install, all the millwork I construct is simply for my own vain glory and self-boasting, it is all for naught. God made me a carpenter for a reason, and I want to step into that purpose with joy and singing.

Except the Lord do build the house, the builders lose their pain:

Except the Lord the city keep, the watchmen watch in vain.

-Ps 127:1 (Scottish Psalter)
